HISTORY OF LAGA™

In 1989 Kathy Mankowski had just moved to Texas. She found she was unable to find ladies with comparable golf games so she began approaching the Dallas-Fort Worth area clubs who would support a new program for women with low handicaps. After several brain storming sessions with Carol Albers, Sherry Berger, Carolyn Creekmore, Melissa Gotfredsen and Rosie Vianco the Ladies Amateur Golf Association was born. The purpose was to improve the golf games of members and promote friendships outside each individual club. This first year there were more than ten country clubs that offered to let our group play with no green fees and on an annual basis.  The initial group of members was under 20 women.

Today LAGA™membership includes over 90 players from 30 different golf courses in the North Texas Area. Our members range in age from their 20’s to 70’s, hail from all parts of the globe, and include several Local and National Championship winners. LAGA™play days occur at every type of facility – from historic private clubs to local municipals courses.
