2016 Challenge Cup

The first Challenge Cup is now complete and those of us who played had a great time with our LAGA members and the South Texas team.

The players were Mary Ducos, Sarah Deering, Louise Davis, Lynn Keefe, Jacque Cooper, Stefanie Smith, Kem Barrett, Marty Slade Perlman, Emily Hillsman, Sherri Buster, Jan Rapp, Nancy Beck, Kerri Billingsley, Jill Hamilton, Liz Scaggs, and Kim Cure and alternate Fallon Vaughn.

Everyone had a great time in a relaxing atmosphere with our South Texas friends in Lufkin. Crown Colony was in excellent shape with some tricky greens and tight fairways. The practice round was a great opportunity to test the course for those of us who hadn’t played it before but we weren’t sure if we were going to endure the 111 degree heat index. The wonderful frosty beverages and great buffet following play helped and we had a great opportunity to get to know our LAGA members better that evening. Crown Colony truly treated us like royalty with excellent food, great accommodations and fantastic service. Although the South team squeaked out a win 74-70 we are looking forward to a re-match in 2017. Crown Colony has asked to be the permanent host course for the event. We did have a very notable win by the team of Sarah Deering and Mary Ducos with a 13-5 victory – WOW!!! Everybody gave it their all and played like champions. We congratulate the South team……for now!

North South Ladies Amateur Golf Association Challenge

August 5-6, 2016, Friday and Saturday
Crown Colony, Lufkin TX

Press Release - March 11, 2016

The state of Texas has a new Tournament for competitive women golfers. Board members of LAGA and STXLAGA approved a friendly challenge between each organization. The challenge will be known as the North South.

The Inaugural event takes place on August 5-6, 2016 at Crown Colony in Lufkin, Texas. We are so pleased to play at Crown Colony, it is a wonderful golf course and a hidden jewel in East Texas, said Lynn Keefe, President of LAGA. The Challenge will consist of forty players, twenty representing LAGA and twenty representing STXLAGA. This should be fun and social, as well as competitive, stated Julie Robichaux, President of STXLAGA.

Members of LAGA and of STXLAGA will compete in a Four-Ball Match Play, gross only competition. Four-ball match play is where two players play their better ball against the better ball of two other players. Each match will compete for one total point on each hole. If a hole is halved, each side will receive a half point. The total points available for each match are 18 points.

More information will be out soon on how to participate in the North South. The purpose of LAGA and STXLAGA is to provide women with low handicaps, competitive events to participate in on a regular basis.
